Twenty-one registered New Mexico-bred Quarter Horses are among the 313 2-year-olds entered in this weekend’s All American Futurity (G1) trials at Ruidoso Downs.|

Sixteen 440-yard trials will be run on Friday and Saturday, with first post time set for 11 a.m. (MDT) each day. The five fastest qualifiers from each day will meet in the $3-million All American Futurity final on Labor Day, September 7.

Following is a closer look at the New Mexico-breds entered in this year’s trials.

Friday

Affinity Eagle (Owners: Evel Zubiate, Carlos Leyva, and Armando Rocha; Trainer: Wes Giles): This bay daughter of the One Famous Eagle stallion Reagal Eagle will be facing open company for the first time. She broke her maiden in a 350-yard maiden-special-weight dash for New Mexico-breds on July 31. Her dam, the Furyofthewind mare Viva La Moon, is a half sister to 2009 AQHA champion aged stallion First Moonflash.

Tuco Salamanca (Owners: Jill B. Giles, Megan Hourigan, and Terry Taylor; Trainer: Wes Giles): A homebred son of the Feature Mr Jess stallion TF Featured Effort, Tuco Salamanca has earned $1,350 from three races at Ruidoso and Sunland Park. The gelding is out of The Rainbow Rea, a multiple graded stakes placed daughter of Dash Ta Fame.

Hollyn Bootie (Owners: Mark & Annette McCloy; Trainer: Blane Wood): This homebred daughter of Big Daddy Cartel will be making her first start against open company off of her half-length victory at odds of 15-1 in the 400-yard, $353,000 Zia Futurity (RG1) for New Mexico-breds on July 26. The filly is out of Datona Doll, a 7-year-old daughter of Jesse James Jr who won the 2016 New Mexico Cup Derby (RG2) at Zia Park.

Ripp (Owners: Gene Bradley and Tod Bradley; Trainer: Blane Wood): A $105,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale, this Big Daddy Cartel gelding has banked $12,922 from three races. He is out of the stakes-winning Ocean Runaway mare Ms Riptide and is a half brother to graded stakes winner Mister Riptide.

JM Christy (Owners: Ventura M Ranch; Trainer: Ivan Tafoya): This daughter of the Walk Thru Fire stallion Jm Specialwynn has earned $120 from two outs, both at Ruidoso Downs. The filly is out of Teller Automatic, a daughter of 2005 All American Futurity (G1) winner Teller Cartel.

Hatchi Zulu (Owner: Nahum Prieto; Trainer: Mike Joiner): A homebred son of Zulu Dragon, this sorrel gelding is out of Effortless Eagle, a winning daughter of AQHA champion One Famous Eagle. Hatchi Zulu has won two of three starts and has earned $26,440, and he is coming off of a fifth-place finish as the fourth-fastest qualifier in the July 26, $353,000 Zia Futurity (RG1).


Tres Of Daddy (Owner: Martin C. Ybarra Jr.; Trainer: Umberto Belloc): A $45,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale, this Big Daddy Cartel gelding has earned $3,042 from three races, and he ran fourth, 1 1/4 lengths behind winner Vine Master, in the 350-yard, $50,000 Mountain Top Juvenile Stakes (R) on June 13. Tres Of Daddy is out of Tres Of Alice, a winning daughter of 2001 AQHA champion 2-year-old colt Tres Seis and 2009 champion 3-year-old filly Alice K White, and he is a full brother to graded stakes winner Donelli.

Darlinn (Owner: US Alliance Logistic; Trainer: Arnulfo Ascencio Jr.): This gray daughter of Big Daddy Cartel made her debut with an eighth-place finish in a 400-yard Zia Futurity (RG1) trial on July 10. A $22,000 yearling purchase, the filly is out of Bridgette Bordeaux, a winning Blushing Bug mare who ran second in the 2005 New Mexico State Fair Breeders’ Derby (RG3) at Albuquerque, and she is a half sister to graded stakes winner Jess Bordeaux.

Saturday

Saki Moon (Owners: Dosi & Norma Alvarez; Trainer: Seth Ferguson): A homebred daughter of 2009 AQHA champion aged stallion First Moonflash, this filly has earned $120 from two outs. She is out of Osaka Moon, a winning and graded stakes placed homebred daughter of Chicks A Blazin.

Daddys Got Da Edge (Owners: Gene Bradley and Tod Bradley; Trainer: Blane Wood): A brown Big Daddy Cartel filly, Daddys Got Da Edge broke her maiden in a 400-yard Zia Futurity (RG1) trial on July 10. The filly was a $65,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale. Her dam, Da Edge, is a daughter of AQHA champion Separatist who won the ‘08 Lubbock Stakes (G2) at Zia Park, and she is a half sister to stakes winner Close To Crazy.

First Love (Owners: Adame Racing LLC and David Valdez; Trainer: Clint Crawford): A maiden after two starts at Ruidoso Downs, this First Moonflash gelding was a $70,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale. First Love is a half brother to graded stakes winner First Blazin Love and stakes winner Love To Finish First.

JM This Girlz Onfire (Owner: Ventura M Ranch LLC; Trainer: Ivan Tafoya): This JM Specialwynn filly has banked $80 from two races. She is out of JM Onehotchickie, a winning daughter of First Down Dash who ran second in the 2015 Mr Jess Perry Stakes at Ruidoso Downs.

Eagles And Dragons (Owner: Joe Rios; Trainer: Juan M. Gonzalez): This son of Zulu Dragon made his debut with a 2 1/4-length victory in a 350-yard Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) trial on May 29. He is out of Effortless Eagle, a winning daughter of One Famous Eagle, and he has banked $2,800 from two outs at Ruidoso Downs.

Cristom (Owners: J & SM Inc., Don Reynolds, and M. Lane Reynolds; Trainer: Fred Danley): The fastest qualifier to the July 26 Zia Futurity (RG1), this Jesse James Jr colt finished sixth, 2 1/4 lengths behind winner Hollyn Bootie, in the $353,000 final. Cristom has won two of three races and has earned $26,133. A $150,000 buy at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, he is out of 2009 AQHA champion 3-year-old filly Alice K White, and he is a full brother to 2015 AQHA champion sophomore filly Astica.

Famous Clyde (Owner: Drew Swasey; Trainer: Wes Giles): A chestnut son of Winners Version, Famous Clyde made his debut with a half-length victory in a 350-yard maiden-special-weight sprint for New Mexico-breds on June 13. The gelding has banked $10,900 from three starts, and he is out of Miss Dash Ta Dial, a stakes-winning Mark My Dial mare.

Abijah (Owner: Julio Gonzalez; Trainer: Juan M. Gonzalez): This First Moonflash gelding was claimed for $15,000 at Remington Park on April 23. Abijah has won one of four starts and has earned $7,003. He is out of Sparklin Royal, an 11-year-old daughter of Sixes Royal who won the 2011 New Mexico State Fair Senorita Futurity (RG3). Abijah sold for $22,000 at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale.

Flash Me To The Moon (Owner: Johnny Trotter and Stan Sigman; Trainer: Mike Joiner): This First Moonflash gelding, a $117,000 yearling buy at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale, has finished second in both of this starts and has earned $1,600. He is out of Lady Jessie Dee, an unraced 10-year-old daughter of AQHA champion Mr Jess Perry, and he is a half brother to 2018 Los Alamitos Two-Million Juvenile Stakes winner Fyre Wall.

Star Bridge (Owners: Kenneth L. Wallin, Sherri Galvez, Dale Boydston, and Tony E. Sedillo; Trainer: Tony Sedillo): This Woodbridge gelding was a $35,000 purchase at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, and he has won one of four starts and has banked $6,900. Star Bridge is out of the winning Tres Seis mare Starsmith, and he is a full brother to 2014 Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) winner Woodys Allstar.

Ember Moon (Owners: Jimmy Vasquez, Scott Branson, and Lionel Carrasco Onsurez; Trainer: Ramon A. Alvarez): This First Moonflash filly ran sixth in her lone start, a 350-yard Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) trial on May 29. A $27,000 yearling purchase, Ember Moon is out of Episode Of Fire, a 12-year-old daughter of Walk Thru Fire and a finalist in the 2010 All American Futurity (G1).

Get Ripped (Owner: Martin C. Ybarra Jr.; Trainer: Umberto Belloc): A half sister to graded stakes winner Mister Riptide, Get Ripped is by Woodbridge out of the stakes-winning Ocean Runaway mare Ms Riptide. Get Ripped was a $115,000 yearling buy at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale, and the filly has earned $476 from two races, both at Ruidoso Downs.

Midnight Train Mo (Owner: Mason A. King; Trainer: Juan Martin Triana): A maiden from four outs, this Rock Solid Jess colt has earned $38,567, and he ran third, a neck behind winner Leading Cartel, in the 350-yard, $334,000 Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) on June 13. Midnight Train Mo is out of Not Sable Shes Rose, an unraced daughter of the Count Corona stallion Coronas Blackdiamond.
