Corrina Corrina, New Mexico’s all-time leading money-earning thoroughbred, will look to add to her legacy Sunday when she faces seven rivals in the 22nd running of the $80,000 La Coneja Stakes at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.

The La Coneja Stakes was originally scheduled one week earlier, but was postponed as a result of unsafe track conditions at Sunland Park, which forced the cancelation of several days of racing.

Trained by Gary Cross for owner and breeder Derrick Jenkins, Corrina Corrina has amassed career earnings of more than $1.52 million with 22 wins in 43 starts. The New Mexico-bred mare, sired by Mr. Trieste, is the 8-5 morning-line favorite for the La Coneja. The race is the eighth on a nine-race program that begins at 12:25 p.m.

Corrina Corrina won the La Coneja Stakes last year and has finished no worse than second in the race in each of the past three years. In her last outing, she was a fast-closing second in the New Mexico State Racing Commission Stakes.

Of Corrina Corrina’s 22 lifetime wins, nine have come at Sunland Park. She will break from the No. 2 post in the 6-furlong contest under regular jockey Tracy Hebert.

First Again, a multiple stakes winner trained by Danny Morales, is the 3-1 second choice on the morning line. Owned and bred by Larry E. Young, the 6-year-old mare by Axiomatic won two stakes races last year, including the New Mexico Classic Distaff at Zia Park in November. She has earned more than $490,000 with nine wins in 31 career starts. Miguel Perez will ride First Again from the No. 5 post.

Mo Money Time is the 4-1 third choice. She enters the La Coneja having beaten Corrina Corrina in the New Mexico State Racing Commission Stakes at Sunland Park on Jan. 4. Trained by Bart Hone for owner and breeder Brian Mundell, Mo Money Time is seeking her third straight win. She will be ridden by Alfredo Juarez Jr. in the La Coneja, which has a scheduled post time of 3:32 p.m.
