Diabolical Storm (pictured), a homebred son of Attila’s Storm, is one of seven New Mexico-bred 3-year-old Thoroughbreds entered in Sunday’s 1-mile, $100,000 Casino at The Downs Derby (R) at Albuquerque Downs.

Trained by Todd Fincher for owners Joe Dee Brooks, Scott Bryant, and Derrol Hubbard, Diabolical Storm will be stretching out in distance off of his nose victory in the open 5 1/2-furlong, $50,000 Duke City Sprint Stakes at Albuquerque Downs on July 30. The gray or roan gelding has won four of seven races — including the 1 1/16-mile, $250,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Derby (R) at Sunland Park on March 27 — and he has earned $252,100.

Diabolical Storm drew the rail post and will be ridden by Alfredo Juarez Jr.

Other contenders include Corrina Corrina, a homebred daughter of Mr. Trieste owned by Derrick W. Jenkins and the lone filly in the field. Corrina Corrina has banked $189,420 from seven races this year, and her three wins include a three-quarter length victory in the 6 1/2-furlong, $100,000 Dine Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds at SunRay Park on May 29.

Corrina Corrina drew post 6 and will be ridden by Joree Scriver for trainer Gary Cross.
