Wide open field of older thoroughbreds lead Land of Enchantment Stakes

ALBUQUERQUE — A field of eight older statebred thoroughbreds will face off in a wide open edition of Sunday’s $75,000 Land of Enchantment Stakes at Albuquerque Downs.

The 7 furlong sprint, which will go as the ninth race of a 10-race program, features a field of eight with 50 combined wins and earnings of nearly $2.5 million.

Antonios Mark, a five-time stakes winner with more than $581,000 in lifetime earnings, enters the Land of Enchantment Stakes off a winning effort against allowance company over this course on June 7.

The 6-year-old son of Marking, owned by Andy Banegas and trained by J.R. Gonzalez, Jr., will break from the outside post in the contest with Enrique Gomez slated to ride.

Bred in New Mexico by Fred Alexander, Antonios Mark has never finished worse than third in seven starts over the course including wins in last year’s Casey Darnell Stakes and O.D. McDonald Stakes. 

Delbert Too, the leading money earner in the field with more than $614,000 in his bankroll, enters the Land of Enchantment Stakes for owner-trainer Filiberto Quiroz. The 8-year-old son of Marking is looking to snap a 13-race losing streak dating back to an allowance victory at Zia Park in December, 2024. He has registered eight wins from 63 career starts, including three wins from 13 starts over this course.

Alfredo Sigala is slated to ride Delbert Too from post three in the Land of Enchantment Stakes, which has a scheduled post time of 4:50 p.m. 

Leroy and Maureen Fincher’s Marking Canyon, also a multiple stakes winner, comes into the race having won three of his four most recent starts. Trained by Leroy Fincher, the 5-year-old son of Marking has won nine times from 27 starts including a pair of stakes wins earlier this year at Sunland Park. 

With more than $570,000 in career earnings, Marking Canyon will break from post two in the Land of Enchantment Stakes and is scheduled to be ridden by Aldo Arboleda.

Owner Allen Kincaid and trainer Alberto Amparan team up with Dave’s Enchantment (pictured), winner of the Mt. Cristo Rey Stakes at Sunland Park last time out. The 6-year-old son of Attila’s Storm has won six times from 21 starts, earning more than $221,000. He was a stakes winner over this course in 2024 when he scored a victory in the O.D. McDonald Stakes in 2024.

Dave’s Enchantment will break from post five in the Land of Enchantment Stakes with Francisco Amparan slated to ride.
