Alamos runs clear in $100,000 Lovington Stakes
HOBBS — Drawing into the race off the also-eligible list, Tungsten Racing Partnership’s Alamos posted a super looking win in Sunday’s $100,000 Grade 2 Lovington Stakes at Zia Park.
Ridden to victory by Christian Ramos for trainer Tony Sedillo, Alamos sped clear from his outside post in the starting gate and was pulling clear from his rivals at the finish line, winning by 1 1/4 lengths while racing 400 yards in a time of 19.02 seconds.
The 3-year-old gelded son of Eye Am King out of the Woodbridge mare Anakena, Alamos was bred in New Mexico by MJ Farms. The win in the Lovington Stakes marks the first stakes win of his career. Alamos was a $185,000 purchase at the 2023 Ruidoso New Mexico Bred QH Yearling Sale. His win in the Lovington Stakes improves his record to six wins from 15 career starts and brings his lifetime earnings to more than $120,000.
Sent off as the post time favorite at odds of 2.60-to-1 in the Lovington Stakes, Alamos returned $7.20 to his winning backers. Runnerup Teller Perry MRL prompted a $2 exacta payoff of $185.60. Whata Lota Boy finished third, with Myy Flashn Denali rounding out the top four finishers.
