Trainer Clinton Crawford will saddle the fastest qualifier for the $350,000 Mountain Top Futurity after Jingle Wood rolled to a devastating 4-length victory in the eighth of 13 trials held Friday at Ruidoso Downs.

Owned by Downtime Enterprises LLC, Christopher J. Lykins, and Melody Lykins and ridden to victory by Jacob Enriquez, Jingle Wood broke quickly from his outside post and was dominant all the way to the finish line in the 350-yard dash. He stopped the clock in a fast final time of 17.608 seconds over a sealed track listed as sloppy, earning the role of fastest qualifier for the restricted Grade 2 event which will be run Sunday, June 15.

Jingle Wood, by Woodbridge, not only earned his way into the starting gate for the Mountain Top Futurity, but he also broke his maiden in his third career start. His most recent outing was a second place finish in the $50,000 New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes at Sunland Park on April 5.

Jingle Wood is out of Ms Jingles, by Bigtime Favorite, an earner of more than $324,000 and stakes placed in both the Grade 1 Texas Classic Futurity and Sam Houston Futurity.

Bred by Mj Farms, Jingle Wood has now amassed earnings of more than $16,000 after three lifetime starts.

Trainer Wes Giles has the second fastest qualifier for the Mountain Top Futurity in MW B Cause Im Sexy, winner of the first trial heat of the day with Emilio Tapia in the irons.

The son of B Cause Im A Hero ran the 350 yards in a time of 17.696 over a fast track, inching clear late to win by a length over Tintero, who also finds his way into the starting gate for the Mountain Top Futurity as the sixth-fastest qualifier.

Owned by Larry Marcum and Nancy Wells, MW B Cause Im Sexy broke his maiden with the trial victory. Bred by John McClintic, he was fourth in his only other start in a maiden race on April 12 at Los Alamitos.

In the most thrilling race of the trials, Luxurie and Holliday finished in a dead heat for the win in the fifth race, each earning a spot in the starting gate for the Mountain Top Futurity.

Holliday, ridden by Noe Garcia, Jr. for trainer Jesus Soto and Alepony, LLC, has now won twice from three career starts. The son of Big Daddy Cartel won a trial for the New Mexico Spring Futurity last March before finishing third in that race on April 5.

Luxurie, making his career debut for trainer James J. Gonzalez, is also a son of Big Daddy Cartel. He is out of the exceptional mare Astica, a nine-time winner including victories in the New Mexico F&M Championship Stakes and the Lou Wooten and Sydney Valentini Handicap in 2016.

The pair each crossed the finish line in a time of 17.729 seconds, three-quarters of a length ahead of third-place finisher King of the Tide, who also finds his way to the Mountain Top Futurity.

Gonzalez will have as many as three starters in the Mountain Top Futurity. In addition to Luxurie and Tintero, Gonzalez also saddled A Peppermint Moon to a second place finish in the 11th trial heat, just missing to Docs Best Answer, who earned the third-fastest qualifying time of 17.726 seconds.
