Flashtoglory rallies late to win $100,000 New Mexico Classic Distaff Stakes

HOBBS — Jockey Christian Ramos guided post time favorite Flashtoglory to an impressive, late-running victory in Sunday’s $100,000 New Mexico Classic Distaff Stakes at Zia Park.

Owned, bred and trained by David Meridyth, Flashtoglory came out of the gate a bit outwardly, chasing early leaders Good Things Come and Copy Of Jess in the 350-yard dash. Ramos urged the 5-year-old First Moonflash mare in the final yards and prevailed by a neck in a driving finish, stopping the clock in a time of 17.37 seconds.

Flashtoglory, an eight-time winner from 26 starts, now has a two-race win streak. She was victorious in her most recent start over this course when she won the $200,000 New Mexico Classic Filly and Mare Championship Stakes on Nov. 23. Sunday’s win adds $57,000 to her career bankroll, which now stands at $533,000.

Bred in New Mexico, Flashtoglory is a four-time stakes winner. Out of the Feature Mr Jess mare Jp Glory Be, Flashtoglory has won four times from eight starts at has never finished worse than third at Zia Park.

Sent off as the 7-to-10 favorite, Flashtoglory returned $3.40 to her winning backera. The $2 exacta with runnerup Good Things Come paid back $63. Copy Of Jess finished with JM Famousberry rounding out the top four finishers.
