Bye Bye Holley narrowly prevails in $150,000 New Mexico Classic Oaks

HOBBS – Bye Bye Holley picked up the first stakes win of her career on Monday, capturing a thrilling victory in the $150,000 New Mexico Classic Oaks under jockey Fausto Da Silva.

The 3-year-old filly by Marking raced about 3 to 4 lengths off the early lead before sweeping to the front midway around the far turn. Da Silva urged Bye Bye Holley while battling four-wide through the stretch, holding off late rallies of both Souped Up Wildcat and Thatsaterriblidea to prevail by a nose. The winner clocked 6 1/2 furlongs in a time of 1 minute, 18.01 seconds.

Bye Bye Holley has now won two straight races and has three wins from 11 lifetime starts. She won an allowance race over this course earlier this month in her most recent start. Monday’s win pushes her career earnings to more than $175,000.

Bred in New Mexico by Fincher Racing, LLC, Bye Bye Holley is trained by Todd Fincher, who also captured the New Mexico Classic Juvenile Stakes to add to his status as leading thoroughbred trainer at Zia Park this season.

Bye Bye Holley is out of the Texas Glitter mare Annis. The damsire was a multiple graded stakes winner and earner of more than $826,000 on the racetrack.

Marking, a son of Bernardini standing at A & A Ranch, has sired multiple recent stakes winners including Antonios Mark, Speed Merchant, Mojica and Payingoffmymarker.

Sent off as the post time favorite at odds of 2.60-to-1, Bye Bye Holley returned $7.20 to her winning backers. The $2 exacta with Souped Up Wildcat paid back $34.20
