Pour Me A Drinkk morning line choice in New Mexico Classic Futurity

HOBBS – Fred Danley’s homebred Pour Me A Drinkk was established as the 9-to-5 morning line favorite in Sunday’s 21st running of the Grade II $313,943 New Mexico Classic Futurity, the main event of a stakes-heavy, 10-race program Sunday at Zia Park.

The son of Prospect to the Top, who comes into the race as the fastest qualifier after trials were held here on Nov. 1, is in search of his first career stakes win. He won his trial by a half-length as the prohibitive post time favorite, racing 350 yards in a fast time of 17.21 seconds.

Pour Me A Drinkk was also the fastest qualifier for the New Mexico State Fair Quarter Horse Futurity earlier this fall at Albuquerque Downs, but was victimized by a poor start in the finals for that race, finishing last.

A two-time winner from five career starts, Pour Me A Drinkk will once again be ridden by James Flores. The pair will break from post nine in the 10-horse field in the NM Classic Futurity, which has a scheduled post time of 4:08 p.m.

The New Mexico Classic Futurity is one of six stakes races featuring some of the top state-bred quarter horses to be held Sunday afternoon. The NM Classic Derby, the NM Classic QH Filly and Mare Championship, the NM 870 Championship, the Namehimatreaker NM Classic QH Championship and the NM Classic QH Juvenile are all on the docket for Sunday. The combined purses for the six stakes races adds up to more than $1.14 million on the line.

Clinton Crawford-trained Jingle Wood, drawn in post 10 for the 350-yard dash, has been established as the 4-to-1 second choice with Jacob Enriquez slated to ride.

Owned by Downtime Enterprises LLC, Christopher J. Lykins, and Melody Lykins, Jingle Wood has two wins from six career starts. The son of Woodbridge, bred by MJ Farms, finished third in the Mountain Top Futurity last summer at Ruidoso Downs and has earned nearly $59,000.

Trainer James J Gonzales III will saddle Luxurie in the NM Classic Futurity, in search of his second career stakes win.

The son of Big Daddy Cartel, also bred by MJ Farms, Luxurie was a narrow winner in the Mountain Top Futurity last summer and has amassed earnings of more than $208,000 while winning four times from five lifetime starts.

Luxurie will break from post four in the NM Classic Futurity as the 5-to-1 third choice on the morning will and will be piloted by Noe Garcia, Jr.

First post on Sunday is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
