Nine New Mexico-bred sophomores, headed by morning-line favorite Diabolical Storm, are entered in Sunday’s 6 1/2-furlong, $100,000 Dine Stakes (R) at SunRay Park.

A gray or roan Attila’s Storm gelding racing for Joe Dee Brooks, Scott Bryant, and Derrol Hubbard, Diabolical Storm will be shortening in distance off of his half-length victory in the 1 1/16-mile, $250,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Derby (R) at Sunland Park on March 27. Diabolical Storm has won three of five starts and has earned $202,600.

Diabolical Storm drew post 4 and will be ridden by Alfredo Juarez Jr. for trainer Leroy Fincher.

Other contenders include Jet Set Warrior and Massive Roar. A homebred son of Archwarrior trained by Joel Marr for owner Jim Volk, Jet Set Warrior has earned $79,020 from three starts this year, and he is coming off of a Sunland Park campaign during which he scored a neck victory in the 1-mile, $100,000 Red Hedeman Mile Stakes (R) on February 27.

Jet Set Warrior drew post 9 and will be ridden by Francisco Amparan.

Massive Roar is coming off of a half-length victory in a 6 1/2-furlong, $53,000 non-winners-of-two allowance for New Mexico-breds at SunRay Park on May 1. The gelded son of Sway Away ran second in three stakes during the Sunland Park meet, including the New Mexico Breeders’ Derby and Red Hedeman Mile.

Massive Roar drew post 3 and will be ridden by Rigo Sarmiento for owner The Quarter Company LLC and trainer Leroy Fincher.
