A field of eight older New Mexico-bred quarter horses will load into the starting gate for Sunday’s $50,000 Jess Burner Stakes at Ruidoso Downs.

Led by 2-to-1 morning line favorite Rc Corona King, the Jess Burner will be run as the 10th and final race on a card that also features six trial heats for the Ruidoso Maiden Stakes. The trials will be run as the first six races on the Sunday program which has a first post time of 1 p.m.

Owned by Jose Riojas and trained by Gerardo Quinonez, Rc Corona King enters the Jess Burner Stakes with earnings of more than $432,000 while winning seven times from 23 career starts.

Rc Corona King is coming off a pair of stakes-placed efforts, most recently finishing third in the Jimmy Drake Stakes at SunRay Park. Prior to that, the son of Eye Am King was fourth in the West Texas Maturity at Sunland Park.

Rc Corona King has recent stakes wins in the Red or Green Stakes in January at Sunland Park and the Grade 1 New Mexico Classic Championship Stakes at Zia Park last December.  Jockey Sergio Dominguez is scheduled to ride Rc Corona King from post two in the 400-yard dash, which has a scheduled post time of 4:54 p.m.
