RC Corona King (pictured), a 5-year-old Eye Am King gelding racing for Jose Riojas, is one of a dozen New Mexico-bred Quarter Horses entered in Friday’s 400-yard, $81,000 Jimmy Drake Stakes (RG3) at SunRay Park.

RC Corona King will be facing state-bred company again off of his fourth-place finish, 1 1/2 lengths behind winner KJ Flying Cowgirl, in the 400-yard, $102,000 West Texas Maturity (G3) at Sunland Park on March 30, a race that he won last year. The sorrel gelding brought a three-race win streak into the West Texas Maturity that included a half-length victory in the December 15, 440-yard New Mexico Classics Championship (RG1) at Zia Park, and a three-quarter length victory in the January 12, 400-yard Red or Green Stakes (RG2) at Sunland Park.

RC Corona King drew post 8 and will be ridden by Sergio Dominguez for trainer Gerardo Quinonez.

Defending Jimmy Drake champion Just En King drew post 3 and will be ridden by Emilio Tapia for owner Ronald Ulibarri and trainer Omar Vargas. A homebred 5-year-old son of Eye Am King, the sorrel gelding is coming off of a neck victory in a 400-yard, $46,000 open-condition allowance dash for New Mexico-breds at Sunland Park on March 30.
