Renika, a graded stakes placed daughter of Big Daddy Cartel owned by Triple R Racing LLC, is one of 106 New Mexico-bred 2-year-old Quarter Horses entered in Friday’s 350-yard Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) trials at Ruidoso Downs.

A $15,000 yearling purchase from breeder MJ Farms at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale, Renika has earned $22,451 from two races. The filly is coming off of a second-place finish, three-quarters of a length behind winner Dashin Approach, in the 350-yard, $113,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) at SunRay Park on May 23.

Renika’s dam, the Woodbridge mare Woodys Allstar, won the 2014 Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) at Sunland Park, and Renika is a half sister to 2017 By By JJ Stakes (R) runner-up Miss Woody James. The filly drew post 8 and will be ridden by Emilio Tapia for trainer Jason Driver in the first of 11 trials.

Other prominent state-bred juveniles entered in Friday’s trials include Ezra Lee’s Run Time, a homebred Big Daddy Cartel filly trained by Wes Giles. Run Time will be stretching out in distance off of her second-place finish, 1 1/4 lengths behind winner BF Shes Outrageous, in the 300-yard, $61,000 Desert Classic Futurity (R) at Turf Paradise on April 28.

Run Time is out of First Prize Amanda, a half sister to 2008 West Texas Futurity (G1) winner Fast Prize Zoom. The filly drew post 9 and will be ridden by Alan Hernandez in the third heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from Friday’s Mountain Top Futurity trials will meet in the June 20, $350,000-est. final.
