Well-matched field of nine will take part in the Foutz Distaff Stakes
FARMINGTON — A well-matched field of nine older fillies and mares are scheduled to reach the starting gate for the $70,000 Russell and Helen Foutz Distaff Stakes, the featured event on Sunday’s 10-race program wrapping up the opening weekend of the 2026 live racing season.
First Again, trained by Danny Morales for owner/breeder Larry E Young, will break from post five under jockey Miguel Perez in the nine-horse field for the Foutz. The race will be the ninth on the card, with a scheduled post time of 4;35 p.m.
The New Mexico-bred 6-year-old mare by Axiomatic will try to capture her third straight win in the Foutz Distaff Stakes. She won the event in 2024, and again last year, defeating Corrina Corrina, who will be among her chief rivals in Sunday’s contest.
First Again has three wins from five starts at SunRay Park, and has amassed career earnings of more than $498,000 while winning nine of 31 starts. She finished third in her most recent start, the $80,000 La Coneja Stakes at Sunland Park in February.
Corrina Corrina, the all-time winningest New Mexico thoroughbred in history with 22 wins and more than $1.56 million in earnings, will look to snap a three-race losing streak in the Foutz, which runs 6 1/2 furlongs.
Trained by Gary Cross for owner Derrick Jenkins, Corrina Corrina was second in the $100,000 New Mexico State University Stakes on closing weekend at Sunland Park just seven days earlier. Prior to that, the 7-year-old Mr Trieste Mare was second in both the $100,000 Harry Henson Stakes as well as the $80,000 New Mexico Racing Commission Stakes earlier in the season at Sunland Park. Her most recent win, last November in the Peppers Pride New Mexico Classic Stakes, happened at Zia Park.
Slated to be ridden by Tracy Hebert, Corrina Corrina will break from the rail in the Foutz Stakes. In addition, Cross will also send out Right For You, a five-time winner from 35 starts but winless in three starts at SunRay Park and Casino. Right For You, owned by Maurciena Cross and Tammie Jenkins and bred by Sam Henderson, will break from post eight under Oscar Andrade, Jr.
Trainer Bart Hone is scheduled to saddle Mo Money Time (pictured above), upset winner of the New Mexico Racing Commission Stakes at Sunland Park earlier this year. The 4-year Conquest Mo Money filly will be making her SunRay Park debut for owner/breeder Brian Mundell and will break from post two with Christian Ramos in the irons.
