Forty-five state-bred 2-year-olds are entered in five 350-yard New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) trials Friday at SunRay Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the May 24, $120,000-added final.

Fire Powwer (pictured), a stakes-winning son of Big Daddy Cartel trained by Tony Sedillo for owner CHR Racing, is coming off of a neck victory in the April 5, $50,000 New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes (R) at Sunland Park. The gelding was a $40,000 yearling buy at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs.

Fire Powwer drew the rail post and will be ridden by Luis Martinez in the third trial.

Tungsten Racing Partnership’s Tres Patriots made his debut with a wire-to-wire, 1 3/4-length victory in a 250-yard, $30,300 maiden-special-weight dash for New Mexico-breds at Sunland Park on March 8. Eric Valenzuela trains the gelded son of Jet Black Patriot.

Tres Patriots drew post 3 and will be ridden by Jordy Muniz in the fourth heat.
