Field of 12 entered in Saturday’s $50,000 Vista Distaff Stakes

Two-time stakes winner Over Da Edge heads a field of 10 fillies and mares which will enter the starting gate in Saturday’s $50,000 Vista Distaff Stakes for New Mexico-bred quarter horses at Ruidoso Downs.

Owned by Miguel Gallegos and Mauricio Gallegos and trained by Marco A. Flores, Over Da Edge will be looking to snap a seven-race losing streak when she arrives at the gate as the 5-to-2 morning line favorite in the 350-yard dash.

Over Da Edge won a pair of stakes races last year as a 3-year-old, winning both the Grade 3 Sunburst Stakes and Grade 2 Shue Fly Stakes at Sunland Park. Over Da Edge has earned more than $227,000 while winning five times from 17 starts.

In her first two starts this year, the daughter of Eye Am King finished seventh in the Lou Wooten and Sydney Valentini Handicap before her most recent start, a third place finish against allowance company at Sunland Park on March 8.

Over Da Edge, a $24,500 purchase from MJ Farms at the 2022 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, will be ridden by Jordy Muniz and will break from post 8 in the Vista Distaff Stakes.

Trainer Julian Rey Honesto will saddle Maka Roon as the second choice in the Vista Distaff Stakes. Owned by Christian Dominguez-Olivas and slated to be ridden by Jacob Enriquez, the 5-year-old mare by Eye Am King finished off the board in her most recent start at SunRay Park on May 23. Prior to that, she was off the board in the Wooten and Valentini Handicap.

In her final start as a 4-year-old, Maka Roon won the New Mexico Classic Distaff Stakes last November at Zia Park. Maka Roon has won five times from 21 lifetime starts and has amassed earnings of more than $168,000.

The Vista Distaff Stakes will be run as the 10th and final race on the Saturday program with a scheduled post time of 4:54 p.m.
