JM Famous Wynn pulls clear late in Vista Distaff Stakes
ALBUQUERQUE — JM Famous Wynn recorded the second stakes win of her career Saturday, pulling clear in the final yards down the center of the course to win the $75,000 Vista Distaff Quarter Horse Stakes at Albuquerque Downs.
Ridden by Luis Martinez, JM Famous Wynn broke well from her outside post, remained in contention throughout, and drew away from her rivals late to win by three-quarters of a length. She completed the 350-yard sprint in 17.11 seconds.
Owned by Carlos Soto Carrasco and trainer Tony Sedillo, JM Famous Wynn earned her first stakes win in January when she captured the Lou Wooten and Sydney Valentini Stakes at Sunland Park. Her victory in the Vista Stakes improved her lifetime record to five wins from 14 starts, with career earnings approaching $192,000.
Bred in New Mexico by Ventura M Ranch LLC, the 3-year-old daughter of JM Specialwynn snapped a two-race losing streak. She had finished off the board in her previous two starts, including a last-place finish in the Jimmy Drake Stakes on May 1 at SunRay Park and Casino.
Sent off as the second choice at 3.9-to-1 odds, JM Famous Wynn returned $9.80 to win. The $2 exacta with Heart Breakn Blondie paid $207.60. Merrmaid finished third, and post-time favorite Big Jessie rounded out the top four finishers.
Albuquerque Downs will host two days of trials Friday and Saturday for the Rainbow Futurity, the second leg of Quarter Horse racing’s Triple Crown. A total of 31 trials at 400 yards will determine the qualifiers for the Rainbow Futurity final on Sunday, July 12.
