Penalties for late Broodmare Registration
All Broodmares, including recipient mares, must be registered by September 1st of the breeding year, or are subject to the following penalties:
- 1st Penalty
$350.00 for registration after September 1, of the breeding year through August 31 of the following year.
- 2nd Penalty
$700.00 for registration after September 1, of the weanling year through August 31 of the following year.
- 3rd Penalty
$1,500.00 for registration after September 1, of the yearling year.
Note: The maximum third year penalty for a broodmare is $1,500.00. If a lesser penalty payment has already been paid on a younger foal, only the difference is the amount required. Larger penalty payments cover penalties on younger foals as well.
Penalties for late Export Broodmare Forms
- The Form for a New Mexico broodmare to leave the state of New Mexico must be filled out and the $500.00 fee paid for by October 1st of the breeding year. If you miss the October 1st deadline a $1,000 fee will then be in place after October 10th. If the mare should reside in New Mexico and then leave the state AFTER October 1st you will have ten days to submit the form and pay the $500.00.
- For embryo transfers you must pay for each mare that leaves the state.
- Every donor mare and every recipient mare that is taken to board out of state must have their own form filled out and you must pay $500.00 for each or the larger $1,000 penalty if the October 1 deadline is missed.
Penalties for late Stallion Registration or Inactive Status
- $1,500.00 for each foal conceived before stallion’s registration date.
- 1 1/2 times the regular application fee for foals that were conceived while the stallion’s status was INACTIVE.
Completed Registration
- For Quarter Horses, registration as a New Mexico bred is not complete until our office has received the original foal certificate papers, for final approval and stamping.
- For Thoroughbreds, registration as a New Mexico bred is not complete until our office has reviewed the Jockey Club papers for final approval and completed virtual stamping of them.
- Your foal is not eligible to enter a New Mexico bred race until its papers have been stamped by this office.
- It is important that you have your foals registered and the papers stamped ahead of time. To maintain registration accuracy, all papers will be stamped at our office.
