Zia Park Racetrack in Hobbs, New Mexico, will open its 30-day Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse meet on Friday, November 3.
Zia Park’s first week of live racing will consist of five consecutive days — Friday, November 3 through Wednesday, November 7. After the first week, live racing will be presented on a Saturday-through-Tuesday schedule with the exception of closing week, when live racing will be conducted five consecutive days from Saturday, December 16 through closing day, Wednesday, December 20.
Once again, Zia Park will host its 19th annual New Mexico Classic Cup Weekend — Sunday, November 26 and Monday, November 27. The November 26 races will showcase the best New Mexico-bred Quarter Horses in seven official stakes races, led by the 440-yard, $200,000-guaranteed Namehimastreaker New Mexico Classic Championship (RG1) for 3-year-olds and older, the 400-yard, $200,000-guaranteed New Mexico Fillies & Mares Championship (RG1) for fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and older, the 350-yard, $170,000-added New Mexico Classic Futurity (RG2) for 2-year-olds, and the 400-yard, $170,000-added New Mexico Classic Derby (RG2) for 3-year-olds.
The November 27 New Mexico Classic Cup program will shine the spotlight on the best state-bred Thoroughbreds in eight stakes races, led by the 1-mile & 70-yard, $200,000-guaranteed Rocky Gulch New Mexico Classic Championship (R) for 3-year-olds and older, and the 1-mile, $200,000-guaranteed Peppers Pride New Mexico Cup Distaff Championship (R) for fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and older.
Zia Park’s annual “Land of Enchantment Day” program will take place on Tuesday, November 28. Six open Thoroughbred stakes will be offered, led by the 1 1/16-mile, $300,000 Zia Park Derby for 3-year-olds, and the 1 1/16-mile, $300,000 Zia Park Oaks for sophomore fillies.
