Holy Hank (pictured) is the 2-1 morning-line choice for Sunday’s 1-mile, $90,000 Red Hedeman Mile Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-old Thoroughbreds at Sunland Park.
A homebred son of Holy Lute trained by Simon Buechler for owners Robert M. Driggers, Del Rae Driggers, and Ben Lee Ivey, Holy Hank has won four of his six races and has earned $292,921, and his record includes victories in last year’s 6-furlong, $332,000 New Mexico State Fair Futurity (R) at Albuquerque Downs, and the 6-furlong, $150,000 New Mexico Classics Juvenile Stakes (R) at Zia Park.
Holy Hank drew post 2 and will be ridden by Tracy Hebert. The gelding’s seven opponents include B Bold Charlie, a bay son of Shame On Charlie trained by Dick Cappellucci for owners Glen Robertson and Bobby J. McQueen. B Bold Charlie ended his juvenile campaign with a 1 3/4-length victory in the December 17, 1-mile/70-yard Hobbs Fall Classic Stakes (R) at Zia Park.
