Twelve state-bred juveniles, headed by stakes winner Delbert Too (pictured, green cap), are entered in Sunday’s 6-furlong, $278,873 New Mexico State Fair Thoroughbred Futurity (R) at Albuquerque Downs.
A $25,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs, Delbert Too is trained by Todd Fincher for owners B4 Farms LLC, Lee Owens, and Dale Alan Doby. The gelded son of the Bernardini stallion Marking has earned $68,434 from three starts, and he broke his maiden with a three-quarter length victory in the 5 1/2-furlong, $135,000 Rio Grande Senor Futurity (R) at Ruidoso Downs on August 16.
Delbert Too is one of three starters foaled by On Stride, a winning daughter of Ghostly Moves and a half sister to multiple stakes winner Bethreefullpockets and stakes winner Pocketfullapozzies. The gelding drew post 12 and will be ridden by Frank Reyes.
Other contenders include a pair of stakes-placed 2-year-olds, Atill I Chime and One Mark. A homebred Attila’s Storm filly trained by Jimmy Padgett for owners Pierre and Leslie Amestoy of Albuquerque, Atill I Chime has banked $30,566 from three outs, and her summer resume included a second-place finish, five lengths behind winner Comics Hot Toddy, in the 5 1/2-furlong, $134,000 Rio Grande Senorita Futurity (R) at Ruidoso Downs on August 16.
Atill I Chime is one of two winners from four starters produced by the 2007 Rio Grande Senorita Futurity winner Pocketfullachime. The filly drew post 4 and will be ridden by Francisco Amparan.
One Mark is trained by Todd Fincher for owners Ted Rushing and R. Lee Lewis. A gelded son of Marking, One Mark has earned $33,483 from three starts, and he placed second in the 5-furlong, $163,000 Mountain Top Futurity (R) at Ruidoso Downs on June 20.
One Mark drew post 10 and will be ridden by Shane Laviolette.
