Ten stakes, including seven restricted to registered New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses, are on the schedule for SunRay Park’s 18-day meet, which opens April 23.
Three of SunRay Park’s New Mexico-bred stakes are for Quarter Horses, topped by the meet’s richest race, the 350-yard, $60,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) for 2-year-olds on May 23. Trials for the Breeders’ Futurity will be run on May 7.
SunRay Park’s other two state-bred Quarter Horse stakes are the 400-yard, $40,000-added New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes (RG3) for 3-year-olds on April 25, and the 400-yard, $40,000-added Jimmy Drake Stakes (R) for 3-year-olds and older on May 16.
SunRay’s four New Mexico-bred Thoroughbred stakes are: the 6 1/2-furlong, $40,000-added Russell and Helen Foutz Distaff (R) for fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and older, on April 24; the 6 1/2-furlong, $40,000-added Jack Cole Stakes (R) for 3-year-olds and older on May 8; the 4 1/2-furlong, $45,000-added C.O. “Ken” Kendrick Memorial Stakes (R) for 2-year-olds on May 23; and the 6 1/2-furlong, $40,000 Dine Stakes (R) for 3-year-olds on May 30.
SunRay Park will offer live racing on a Friday-through-Sunday schedule through closing day, May 30. Post time for the first race every day is set for 2:15 p.m. (MDT).
