A dozen state-bred 2-year-olds are entered back in Sunday’s 400-yard, $100,000 New Mexico State Fair Juvenile Stakes (R) at Albuquerque Downs.
Carlos F. Paez’s Mr Tres Effort, a homebred son of the Feature Mr Jess stallion TF Featured Effort, drew post 9 and will be ridden by Luis Flores-Garcia for trainer Eric Valenzuela. The sorrel gelding has earned $37,002 from six races, and he was a finalist in the 300-yard, $313,000 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park on April 3.
Other contenders include Jess Stevie, a sorrel son of Jess A Chicks racing for Vista Del Sol Inc. and an $8,500 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs. The gelding has won two of his three starts at Albuquerque Downs this season, including a 400-yard, $41,800 open-condition allowance for New Mexico-breds on August 20.
Jess Stevie drew the rail post and will be ridden by Jacob Enriquez for trainer Marco Flores.
