Eight of the 14 scheduled New Mexico Classics Stakes were contested Sunday and Monday at Zia Park at Hobbs, New Mexico.

Mechanical issues forced Zia Park management to cancel six of the seven state-bred Quarter Horse stakes scheduled for Sunday.

Corrina Corrina, a homebred 5-year-old daughter of Mr. Trieste trained by Gary Cross for owner Derrick W. Jenkins, became the richest New Mexico-bred Thoroughbred distaffer with her victory in Monday’s 6-furlong, $150,000 New Mexico Classics Distaff Stakes (R). Corrina Corrina banked the $90,000 winner’s share of the purse to bring her career earnings to $1,098,560, surpassing Peppers Pride previous record of $1,066,085
