Stakes winners Corrina Corrina (pictured) and Our Time To Shine are two of the seven New Mexico-bred fillies and mares entered in Sunday’s 1-mile, $100,000 Peppers Pride Handicap (R) at Sunland Park.
A homebred 4-year-old daughter of Mr. Trieste and the 9-5 morning-line favorite, Corrina Corrina races for Derrick W. Jenkins from the barn of trainer Gary Cross. Corrina Corrina is coming off of a second-place finish, one length behind winner Quatro, in the 6-furlong, $100,000 La Coneja Stakes (R) at Sunland Park on February 5. However, the filly won two stakes during her sophomore campaign, including the 1-mile, $100,000 Casino at The Downs Derby (R) at Albuquerque Downs, and she ran third, four lengths behind winner Bella Runner, in the open 1 1/16-mile, $250,000 Zia Park Oaks.
Corrina Corrina drew post 3 and will be ridden by Ken Tohill.
Our Time To Shine races for Scott R. Bean, James Masek, and Nancy Summers, who also trains the 5-year-old Laugh Track mare. Our Time To Shine is coming off of a 4-year-old season during which she scored a nose victory in the 1-mile, $125,000 Peppers Pride New Mexico Cup Distaff Championship (R) at Zia Park.
Our Time To Shine drew post 2 and will be ridden by Francisco Amparan.
