River Flash (pictured), a homebred son of Chicks Regard racing for Robert M. Driggers and Ben Lee Ivey, will put his six-race win streak on the line in Sunday’s 400-yard, $287,844 New Mexico State Fair Quarter Horse Derby (R) at Albuquerque Downs.
River Flash began his current streak with a three-quarter length victory at odds of 13-1 in the 400-yard, $100,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes (RG3) at SunRay Park on April 24. The gray gelding’s streak includes wins in the 350-yard, $163,000 Mountain Top Derby (R) on June 18, and the 400-yard, $174,000 Zia Derby (RG2) on August 6, both at Ruidoso Downs.
River Flash has won all three of his outs at Albuquerque Downs. The gelding drew post 6 and will be ridden by Adrian Ramos for trainer Wes Giles.
