Racing in the third of six 400-yard trials on Friday, Jess Tequila Talkin defeated 10th-fastest qualifier Champagne Room by 2 3/4 lengths in :19.550. Tanner Thedford rode the gelding for trainer Jackie Riddle.
Jess Tequila Talkin was bred by Mac and Janis Murray’s MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico. A $22,000 yearling purchase at the 2018 New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs, the gelding has won three of seven starts and has banked $58,737, and he was a finalist in last year’s Zia Futurity (RG1) at Ruidoso.
MJ Farms’ Donelli, a homebred daughter of Big Daddy Cartel, posted the second-fastest qualifying time. Ridden by Alan Hernandez for trainer Wes Giles, Donelli won the first heat by 1 1/4 lengths in :19.679 while scoring her fourth win in six outs and increasing her earnings to $214,638.
Donelli was making her first start since September 22, when the filly scored a victory in the 400-yard New Mexico State Fair Futurity (RG3) at Albuquerque Downs.
Third-fastest qualifier Jess Featured Girl, a sorrel daughter of TF Featured Effort trained by Danny Urista for owner Sandra Bean, won the fourth trial by 1 1/4 lengths in :19.793. Paul Garcia rode the filly.
Jess Featured Girl was bred by Cynthia H. Dick. The filly has won three of seven starts and has banked $47,866.
