Amanda Sweeten’s Flaxy Lady (pictured) and Brian Mundell’s Bikini Time are among the 12 New Mexico-bred fillies and mares entered in Saturday’s 6 1/2-furlong, $100,000 Russell & Helen Foutz Distaff Stakes (R) at SunRay Park.
A 7-year-old daughter of the Dixieland Band stallion Firejack trained by Andres Gonzalez, Flaxy Lady is coming off of a Sunland Park winter campaign during which she scored a two-length victory in the 1-mile, $100,000 Peppers Pride Handicap (R) for New Mexico-bred distaffers on March 6. The mare was claimed by Sweeten for $7,500 at Zia Park on October 25.
Flaxy Lady drew post 3 and will be ridden by Miguel Perez.
Bikini Time is a homebred 4-year-old Attila’s Storm filly trained by Bart Hone. Bikini Time has won three of four starts and has earned $78,680, and she is coming off of a 1 3/4-length victory in a 6 1/2-furlong, $42,000 non-winners-of-three allowance race for state-bred distaffers at Sunland Park on March 20.
Bikini Time is a full sister to Sexy Bikini Model, the winner of the 2020 Peppers Pride New Mexico Cup Championship (R) at Zia Park. The filly drew post 9 and will be ridden by Rigo Sarmiento.
