A full field of 12 New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds are entered in Sunday’s 7-furlong, $100,000 O.D. McDonald Stakes (R) at Albuquerque Downs.
Dale F. Taylor Racing’s Golden Band (pictured), a homebred 6-year-old Quinton’s Gold gelding trained by Todd Fincher, will be stretching out in distance off of his half-length win in the 5 1/2-furlong, $100,000 Casey Darnell Stakes (R) at Albuquerque Downs on August 21. Golden Band has won four of his six starts at Albuquerque.
Golden Band drew post 6 and will be ridden by Rodolfo Guerra. Other contenders include Ancient Land, a 4-year-old son of Monterey Jazz trained by Casey Lambert for owners Martin Riley, D. Carroll, C. Scott, and J. Howard. Ancient Land won two races during the recently concluded Ruidoso Downs meet, including the 7 1/2-furlong, $50,000 Land of Enchantment Stakes (R) on July 31.
Ancient Land drew post 9 and will be ridden by Kelsi Purcell.
