Graded stakes winner Crispyn (pictured) and stakes winner Bigg Shades Of Gray are two of the 129 New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds entered in Friday’s 350-yard Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) at Ruidoso Downs.
Post time for the first of 13 trials is set for 1 p.m. (MDT). The last heat is scheduled to go off at 6:12.
A homebred son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion A Royal Jess, Crispyn is trained by Manuel Rodriguez for owner MRB Racing LLC. The bay gelding has earned $179,061 from two races, and he will be stretching out in distance off of his neck victory in the April 1, 300-yard New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.
Crispyn drew post 7 and will be ridden by Alan Hernandez in the fifth trial.
Bigg Shades Of Gray races for Marcelino Gonzalez and Super Champion Inc. from the barn of trainer Eric Valenzuela. A $58,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs, the gelded son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Eye Am King is coming off of a neck victory in the April 1, 300-yard New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes (R) at Sunland Park.
Bigg Shades Of Gray drew post 6 and will be ridden by Emilio Tapia in the third heat.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from Friday’s trials will meet in the June 18, $350,000-est. Mountain Top Futurity final.
