The 350-yard, $50,000 Vista Distaff Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred fillies and mares, originally scheduled for June 22, has been rescheduled to be contested this Thursday, July 4, at Ruidoso Downs.
A dozen state-bred distaffers are entered, led by EBW Dancnthemoonlite and First Flashin. A 5-year-old daughter of 2009 AQHA champion aged stallion First Moonflash racing for Scott Branson and Jimmy Vasquez, EBW Dancnthemoonlite will be facing fillies and mares off of her fourth-place finish, three-quarters of a length behind winner Just En King, in the 350-yard, $70,000 Jimmy Drake Stakes (RG3) at SunRay Park on May 3.
EBW Dancnthemoonlite earned $134,039 from nine races last year, and her three wins included the 350-yard, $50,000 New Mexico Classics Distaff Stakes (R) at Zia Park on December 17. The mare drew post 5 and will be ridden by Luis Martinez for trainer David Gomez-Barraza.
First Flashin is a 7-year-old First Moonflash mare trained by Carlos Acosta Jr. for owner Victor Marroquin, and she will be making her first official start since March 10, when she scored a one-length victory in a 350-yard, $50,800 open-condition allowance dash for New Mexico-bred distaffers at Sunland Park. The sorrel mare has banked $32,650 from three outs at Ruidoso Downs, and she earned a 1 1/2-length win in last year’s 350-yard, $45,000 Rita Danley Distaff Stakes (R).
