A total of 21 New Mexico-bred Quarter Horses passed the entry box for Friday’s 400-yard, $100,000 Jimmy Drake Stakes (RG3) at SunRay Park, causing track management to split the stakes into two divisions.
HS Paul Walker (pictured), a homebred 7-year-old son of Osbaldo racing for Hubaldo Solis of Peralta, New Mexico, is the 3-1 morning-line favorite in the first division of the Jimmy Drake. Trained by Alfredo Gomez, the gray gelding is coming off of a second-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Diezs Daylight, in the February 11, 350-yard Mesilla Valley Speed Handicap (RG2) at Sunland Park.
HS Paul Walker has earned $80,000 from two races this season, and he began his 2023 campaign with a neck victory in the 400-yard, $100,000 Red or Green Stakes (RG2) at Sunland Park on January 7. The gelding drew post 7 and will be ridden by Hector Aldrete.
