Sheza Dandy RF and Count Them Again (pictured) are among the 10 state-bred fillies and mares entered in Saturday’s 5 1/2-furlong, $100,000 New Mexico State Racing Commission Handicap (R) at Sunland Park.
A 6-year-old daughter of Attila’s Storm owned by Cesar Mendoza, Sheza Dandy RF is coming off of a half-length victory in the 6-furlong, $100,000 New Mexico Cup Distaff Sprint Championship (R) at Zia Park on October 31. The mare won three of six starts and earned $106,260 in 2021.
Sheza Dandy RF drew post 4 and will be ridden by Jose M. Vazquez for trainer Bernadette Barrios.
The 5-2 morning-line favorite, Count Them Again is a 5-year-old Premeditation mare trained by Ever Olguin for owners Lola L. Cuellar and Alexandria M. Cuellar. Count Them Again is coming off of a 4-year-old campaign during which she banked $60,746 from five outs and scored a wire-to-wire, one-length victory in the 6 1/2-furlong, $55,000 Russell and Helen Foutz Distaff Stakes (R) at SunRay Park.
Count Them Again drew post 6 and will be ridden by Alfredo Sigala.
