Six New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds, headed by 2-1 morning-line favorite Thunder Dome, are entered in Saturday’s 1-mile, $50,000 Jack Cole Stakes at SunRay Park.
Thunder Dome is a 7-year-old Dome gelding trained by Bart Hone for owners W.D. Carson Sr., M.H. Carson, and Leach Racing LLC. Thunder Dome returns to New Mexico off of a Turf Paradise winter campaign during which he earned $7,367 from four starts.
Thunder Dome has won 11 of 43 starts, and his three wins in seven outs at the eight-furlong distance include a 4 1/4-length victory in last year’s $50,000 Rocky Gulch New Mexico Cup Championship at Zia Park. The gelding has earned $672,440, of which $103,290 has been banked at the 1-mile trip. Thunder Dome drew post 3 and will be ridden by Aldo Arboleda.
