Marked Kiss (pictured) and American Cherub, trial winners on August 2, are two of 10 New Mexico-bred 2-year-old Thoroughbred fillies entered back in Sunday’s 5-furlong, $129,089 Rio Grande Senorita Futurity (R) at Albuquerque Downs.

A $31,000 yearling purchase from breeder Kim Saunders by owners Glen Robertson and Bobby J. McQueen, American Cherub made her career debut with a two-length victory in the second trial. Dick Cappelucci trains the chestnut daughter of the Bodemeister stallion American Anthem.

American Cherub drew post 4 and will be ridden by Alfredo Juarez Jr.

Marked Kiss was purchased by owner Jana Trotter for $100,000 at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs. A daughter of Marking trained by Chris Zamora, the filly has banked $7,000 from her first two outs, and she is coming off of a 1 1/4-length win in the first Senorita Futurity trial.

Marked Kiss drew post 8 and will be ridden by Alejandro Medellin.
