A dozen New Mexico-bred 2-year-old Quarter Horses, including two also-eligible entries, are entered in Sunday’s 350-yard, $50,000 Mountain Top Juvenile Stakes (R) at Ruidoso Downs.
A pair of Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) trial winners — Im Flashy and Daddys Last Straw — drew posts 3 and 7, respectively. A daughter of 2009 AQHA champion aged stallion First Moonflash trained by Albert Valles for owner NJ Farms LlC, Im Flashy scored a neck victory as the odds-on favorite in the seventh of 11 trials on June 4.
Im Flashy has won two of three starts and has earned $7,009, and she was a finalist in the April 28, $88,000 Arizona QRA Turf Paradise Spring Futurity. The filly will be ridden by James Flores.
Daddys Last Straw broke her maiden with a one-length win in the eighth Mountain Top Futurity trial. Luis Iturralde trains the Big Daddy Cartel filly for owner Sonia Estrada.
Omar Iturralde will ride Daddys Last Straw.
