Friday’s 5-furlong Rio Grande Senorita Futurity (R) trials at Albuquerque Downs drew a total of 10 New Mexico-bred 2-year-old Thoroughbred fillies.

The top five finishes from the two heats will meet in the Rio Grande Senorita Futurity final.

Not A Rehearsal, a homebred daughter of the Tiznow stallion Sporting Chance owned by J. Kirk and Judy Robison of El Paso, Texas, made her debut with a wire-to-wire, 1 1/4-length victory in a 5-furlong, $23,000 maiden-special-weight race at Ruidoso Downs on June 15. The dark bay or brown filly is one of two winners from as many starters produced by African Heat, a homebred multiple stakes winning Southwestern Heat mare who won the 2018 Rio Grande Senorita Futurity (R) at Ruidoso Downs.

Not A Rehearsal is a full sister to Higher Ed, the winner of this year’s Kendrick Stakes (R) at SunRay Park. The filly drew post 5 and will be ridden by Felipe Valdez for trainer Todd Fincher in the first trial.

Fincher will send out a total of six Senorita Futurity hopefuls, including Unbridled Beauty, a gray or roan Right Rigger filly racing for Pierre and Leslie Amestoy and Roger K. Beasley. A $77,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs, Unbridled Beauty is one of five winners from as many starters produced by Stardust Lady, a winning daughter of Dry Gulch, and she is a full sister to multiple stakes winner Rig Time and ’15 Rio Grande Senorita Futurity (R) winner Dust Alert.

Unbridled Beauty will be making her career debut. The filly drew post 3 and will be ridden by Felipe Valdez in the second trial.
