Graded stakes winners Daddysqueenofalice (pictured) and Crispyn are among the 119 New Mexico-bred 2-year-old Quarter Horses are entered in Friday’s 400-yard Zia Futurity Trials at Ruidoso Downs.
A $180,000 purchase at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, Daddysqueenofalice is a gray daughter of Big Daddy Cartel and 2009 AQHA champion 3-year-old filly Alice K White. The filly broke her maiden with a one-length victory in the 350-yard, $341,000 Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) at Ruidoso Downs on June 18.
Daddysqueenofalice is a half sister to 2015 champion sophomore filly Astica. The filly drew post 7 and will be ridden by Mario Delgado for owners Triple R Racing Stables LLC and Kim Middleton, and trainer James Gonzales II.
Crispyn is an undefeated homebred son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion A Royal Jess trained by Manuel Rodriguez for owner MRB Racing LLC. The bay gelding has earned $183,861 from three starts, and his three wins include a neck victory as the fastest qualifier in the April 1, $366,000 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.
Crispyn drew post 7 and will be ridden by Alan Hernandez in the 11th heat.
MRB Racing and Manuel Rodriguez will also be represented in the Zia Futurity trials by Grafity, a homebred A Royal Jess gelding who will be stretching out in distance off of his half-length win in the June 18, $50,000 Mountain Top Juvenile Stakes (R). Grafity drew post 10 and will be ridden by Esgar Ramirez in the fifth trial.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from Friday’s trials will meet in the July 23, $375,000-est. Zia Futurity final.
