Derrick W. Jenkins’ Corrina Corrina (pictured), a homebred 4-year-old daughter of Mr. Trieste and a multiple stakes winner, is one of nine New Mexico-bred fillies and mares entered in Sunday’s 6 1/2-furlong, $100,000 Russell & Helen Foutz Distaff Stakes (R) at SunRay Park.
Corrina Corrina will be shortening in distance off of her half-length victory as the 3-10 favorite in the 1-mile, $100,000 Peppers Pride Stakes (R) at Sunland Park on March 5. The filly has won six of 17 races and she has earned $435,870, and her record at SunRay Park includes a come-from-behind three-quarter length win in last year’s 6 1/2-furlong, $100,000 Dine Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds.
Corrina Corrina drew post 5 and will be ridden by Ken Tohill for trainer Gary Cross.
Trainer Todd Fincher will send out two contenders, including B4 Farms LLC’s Bye Bye Brandi. The runner-up to Corrina Corrina in the Peppers Pride, the 4-year-old Marking filly made her season debut with a wire-to-wire, three-quarter length victory in a 1-mile second-level allowance route at Sunland Park on January 29.
Bye Bye Brandi drew post 4 and will be ridden by Luis Fuentes.
