Community Leader (pictured), a homebred son of the Artax stallion Diabolical racing for J. Kirk and Judy Robison of El Paso, Texas, will put his three-race win streak on the line in Sunday’s 5 1/2-furlong, $118,039 Rio Grande Senor Futurity (R) for New Mexico-bred 2-year-old Thoroughbred colts and geldings at Ruidoso Downs.
One of six finalists from the barn of trainer Todd Fincher, Community Leader is coming off of a clear 6 3/4-length victory in the first of two trials on July 21. The gelding has won all three of his starts — including the 5-furlong, $133,000 Mountain Top Futurity (R) on June 25, and he has earned $75,980.
Community Leader drew post 7 and will be ridden by Felipe Valdez.
The Robisons and Fincher will also be represented by the other trial winner, Higher Ed, a homebred dark bay or brown son of the Tiznow stallion Sporting Chance. Higher Ed has won two of three races and has banked $25,531, and the gelding’s early season resume includes a third-place finish, 1 1/4 lengths behind Community Leader, in the Mountain Top Futurity.
Higher Ed drew post 8 and will be ridden by Christian Ramos.
