Just En King (pictured), a homebred 4-year-old son of Eye Am King owned by Ronald Ulibarri, will put his three-race win streak on the line in Sunday’s 400-yard, $50,000 Jess Burner Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred Quarter Horses at Ruidoso Downs.
Just En King is coming off of a half-length victory in the May 3, 350-yard Jimmy Drake Stakes (RG3) at SunRay Park. The gelding ended his sophomore campaign with a neck victory in the November 26, 440-yard Namehimastreaker New Mexico Classic Championship (RG1) at Zia Park.
Just En King drew post 3 and will be ridden by Alfredo Sigala for trainer Tony Lello.
Other contenders include Jose R. Riojas’ RC Corona King, a 4-year-old Eye Am King gelding trained by Gerardo Quinonez. RC Corona King is coming off of a second-place finish to Just En King in the Jimmy Drake, but his Sunland Park winter campaign included a neck victory against open stakes company in the 400-yard, $108,000 West Texas Maturity (G3) on March 31.
RC Corona King drew post 9 and will be ridden by Sergio Dominguez.
