Royal Post, a daughter of Eye Am King racing for LG Racing LLC, is the fastest qualifier to the November 24, $170,000-added New Mexico Classics Derby (RG2) for state-bred sophomore Quarter Horses at Zia Park.
Racing in the last of three trials on Sunday, Royal Post defeated second-fastest qualifier Drest For Success by a half of a length while going 400 yards in :19.774. Jacob Enriquez rode the brown filly for trainer Lonnie Vaughn.
Royal Post was bred by Mac and Janis Murray’s MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico. A $30,000 yearling purchase at the 2022 New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs, the filly is out of Bigg Alice, a homebred winning daughter of the Corona Cartel stallion Big Daddy Cartel and a half sister to ’15 AQHA champion 3-year-old filly Astica.
Royal Post was winning for the second time in 13 races and increasing her career earnings to $60,591. The filly was a finalist in the February 4, 400-yard Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) at Sunland Park, and the June 15, 350-yard Mountain Top Derby (R) at Ruidoso Downs.
Drest For Success stopped the timer in :19.880 under jockey Christian Cardenas. James Gonzales III trained the homebred Jet Black Patriot filly for owners Copper Springs Ranch and Ellison Carter.
Drest For Success is out of Devilwitha Bluedress, an 11-year-old Corona Cartel mare and a full sister to world champion Blues Girl Too. Her second dam, the winning Sixarun mare Run The Dash, ran third in world champion Bono Jazz’s 1998 PQHRA Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at Los Alamitos.
Drest For Success has won two of her three outs and has banked $42,626.
Third-fastest qualifier Copy Of Jess ran third in the last heat. Trained by James Gonzales III and ridden by Francisco Calderon for owners Denis and Julie Schoenhofer, the sorrel daughter of Jesse James Jr went 400 yards in :19.894.
Copy Of Jess was bred by MJ Farms, and she was purchased by the Schoenhofers for $77,000 at the ’22 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. The filly is out of Fast Copy Miss, a winning and graded stakes placed Heza Fast Man mare, and she is a half sister to multiple graded stakes winner Woodys Copy Cat.
Copy Of Jess has won three of her 11 starts and has earned $60,810.
