Field Set for August 16, $125,000-est. Rio Grande Senorita Futurity

Three 5 1/2-furlong trials on Friday established the field for the August 16, $125,000-est. Rio Grande Senorita Futurity (R) for New Mexico-bred 2-year-old fillies at Ruidoso Downs.

Atill I Chime, Shame On Bea, and Fill The Bill won the three heats, from which the top three finishers made the Senorita Futurity final. Trained by Joel Marr and ridden by Miguel Fuentes Jr. for owners Pierre and Leslie Amestoy of Albuquerque, Atill I Chime won the first trial by a half of a length in 1:05.18. The homebred daughter of Attila’s Storm was making her career debut.

Atill I Chime is one of two winners from four starters produced by Pocketfullachime, a homebred daughter of the Dixieland Band stallion Chimes Band who won the 2007 Rio Grande Senorita Futurity. A 2005 foal, Pocketfullachime is a half sister to Indy’s Rocket, the winner of the ’14 University of New Mexico Handicap (R) at Albuquerque Downs.

Atill I Chime’s second dam, the Full Choke mare Pocketfullapozzies, won the 2000 Copper Top Futurity (R) for the Amestoys at Sunland Park.

Shame On Bea won the second heat by a half of a length for owners Jimmy Powers and Rebecca Powers. Ridden by Francisco Amparan for trainer Cliff Lambert Sr., the Shame On Charlie filly went 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:06.49 while making her second career start.

Shame On Bea was bred by Barbara Brown. The filly is one of four winners from as many starters foaled by Shug’s Midnight, a winning daughter of the Storm Cat stallion Storm Of Goshen. Shug’s Midnight has produced two stakes winners, both of whom are full siblings to Shame On Bea — Shug’s Hope, the winner of the 2015 C.O. “Ken” Kendrick Memorial Stakes (R) at SunRay Park, and Shame On Powers, the winner of two stakes last year, including the $143,091 Rio Grande Senor Futurity (R).

A 2008 foal, Shug’s Midnight is a half sister to five-time New Mexico-bred stakes winner Askmetodance.

Fill The Bill scored a wire-to-wire, half-length victory in the third trial. Racing for J & SM Inc. of Fort Stockton, Texas, the bay Attila’s Storm filly stopped the timer in 1:05.53 while recording her first win in three starts. Enrique Gomez rode Fill The Bill for trainer Fred Danley.

The third-place finisher in the 5-furlong, $163,000 Mountain Top Futurity (R) on June 20, Fill The Bill was an $82,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs. The filly is out of Ringback, a winning daughter of Gone Hollywood who has produced four winners from as many starters, including Hollywood Henry, a half brother to Fill The Bill who won last year’s $85,000 Mt. Cristo Rey Handicap (R) at Sunland Park.

Fill The Bill was bred by Fred Alexander of Anthony, New Mexico. The filly has earned $22,810 while racing exclusively at Ruidoso Downs.
