George and Peggy Cobb’s Dashin Approach, a homebred son of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon stallion Mr Pyc To You, is the fastest qualifier to the May 23, $60,000-added New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) for state-bred 2-year-old Quarter Horses.
Racing in the second of four 350-yard trials at SunRay Park on Friday, Dashin Approach broke his maiden with a 2 1/2 length victory in :17.485. Jaime Parga Leos rode the brown gelding for trainer Arturo Chavez.
Dashin Approach is out of Panther Not A Kitty, an unraced homebred 13-year-old daughter of the Meter Me Gone stallion Panther Mountain. The gelding has won one of three starts and has banked $7,608.
Second-fastest qualifier Rocasolida Esperance remained undefeated with a half-length victory from fourth-fastest qualifier Babysharksharkshark in the fourth heat. Ridden by Joel Leyva, the Rock Solid Jess filly stopped the timer in :17.737 while earning her second win in as many outs and increasing her earnings to $10,500. Brad Bolen prepped Rocasolida Esperance for owners Donald Cabrera and Linda Weiss.
Rocasolida Esperance was bred by Holly Hooper. The filly’s dam, Esperance, is a winning daughter of the Mr Eye Opener stallion Eyesa Special.
Renika, a bay Big Daddy Cartel filly owned by Triple R Racing Stables LLC, set the third-fastest qualifying time with her neck victory in the third trial. Ridden by Joseph Belloc Jr. for trainer Antonio Soto, Renika went 350 yards in :17.788 while making her career debut.
Renika was bred by Mac and Janis Murray’s MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico. A $15,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale, the filly is out of Woodys Allstar, a homebred Woodbridge mare who won the 2014 Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) at Sunland Park.
