Eight New Mexico-bred runners, topped by defending champion Jess A Satin Flash, are entered in Saturday’s 440-yard, $75,000 First Moonflash Maturity (RG2) at Albuquerque Downs.
An 8-year-old son of First Moonflash trained by Rene Saucedo for owner Bertha S. Irigoyen, Jess A Satin Flash has earned $251,052 from 43 starts, and his 10 wins include a neck victory in last year’s First Moonflash Maturity. The gelding drew post 7 and will be ridden by Alejandro Medellin.
Other contenders include Marcus Medallion (pictured), an 8-year-old Jesse James Jr gelding owned and trained by Jaime Aldavaz Sr. Marcus Medallion will be stretching out in distance of his second-place finish, a neck behind winner No Mires A La Luna, in the 400-yard, $40,000 Zia Stakes (RG2) at Ruidoso Downs on July 31.
Marcus Medallion drew post 8 and will be ridden by Jose Enrique Ortiz.
