Sheza Ahotmess, a homebred daughter of champion First Moonflash racing for Sherree Meridyth, is the fastest qualifier to the May 22, $120,000-added New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) at SunRay Park.
Trained by Guadalupe Munoz Jr., Sheza Ahotmess on Friday won the first of seven 350-yard trials in :17.462. Gerardo Vera rode the bay filly.
Sheza Ahotmess is out of Jazzsnspots, a homebred winning daughter of the Feature Mr Jess stallion Double Feature Jess. The filly has won two of three races and has earned $24,292, and she was a finalist in the April 3, 300-yard New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.
Second-fastest qualifier Flash Divine won the sixth heat by two lengths in :17.628. Noe Garcia Jr. rode the sorrel First Moonflash colt for owners Jimmy Negrete and Jimmy Vasquez and trainer Wes Giles.
A homebred, Flash Divine was making his career debut. The colt is out of Girlonthego, a Man On The Move mare who won the 2014 Zia Futurity (RG1) at Ruidoso Downs. Flash Divine is a half brother to multiple graded stakes winner Cat Daddys Lil Girl.
Major Game, the third-fastest qualifier, won the fourth trial by one length while covering 350 yards in :17.629 under jockey Sergio Becerra Jr. Eric Valenzuela prepped the graded stakes placed son of freshman sire Gronkowski for owners Jaime Perez, Andres Estrada, and J. Santos Espinosa.
Major Game was bred by Mike Abraham. The chestnut colt has won two of three starts and has banked $43,073, and he was coming off of a third-place finish in the New Mexican Spring Futurity.
