Nancy L. Lock’s For Markeese, a homebred daughter of Marking trained by Nancy Summers, will make the first start of her 5-year-old season in Sunday’s 5 1/2-furlong, $100,000 New Mexico State Racing Commission Handicap (R) for state-bred fillies and mares at Sunland Park.

For Markeese is coming off of a second-place finish, 1 1/4 lengths behind longshot winner Shugs Charlie, in the 6-furlong, $100,000 New Mexico Cup Distaff Sprint Championship (R) at Zia Park on October 30. The mare has earned $89,518 from six races, and she won all three of her starts during the Albuquerque Downs summer meet.

For Markeese drew post 11 and will be ridden by Joree Scriver. Her 10 opponents include Shugs Charlie, a 6-year-old Shame On Charlie mare who won the New Mexico Cup Distaff Championship at odds of 35-1. Filiberto Quiroz trains Shugs Charlie for owners Humberto Munoz and Karla J. Munoz.

Shugs Charlie drew post 2 and will be ridden by Christian Ramos.

Trainer Dick “Flaco” Cappelucci will send out contender Marking Time, a 5-year-old Marking mare owned by Centurion Racing Partners LLC. Marking Time won both of her outs during the Zia Park meet, including a 6-furlong second-level allowance race on December 20.
