Rex Wells’ Bigg Dee (pictured), a multiple stakes winning son of Big Daddy Cartel, will make his 5-year-old season debut in Saturday’s 400-yard, $100,000 Red Or Green Stakes (RG1) for New Mexico-breds at Sunland Park.

Trained by James J. Gonzales III, Bigg Dee is coming off of a 2022 campaign during which he earned $155,150 from seven races and scored victories in the 350-yard, $100,000 Mesilla Valley Speed Handicap (RG2) at Sunland Park, and the 400-yard, $50,000 Zia Stakes (RG2) at Ruidoso Downs. The gelding was purchased as a yearling by Wells for $30,000 at the 2019 New Mexico-Bred Sale.

Bigg Dee drew post 6 and will be ridden by Mario Delgado. His opponents include Hunky McGoo, a homebred 4-year-old son of Big Daddy Cartel trained by Jackie Riddle for the Estate of William and Mary Robertson. Hunky McGoo is coming off of a sophomore season during which the gelding ran second, a neck behind winner Classy Moon, in the October 30, $216,000 New Mexico Cup Derby (RG2) at Zia Park.

Hunky McGoo drew the rail post and will be ridden by Federico Martinez.
