B4 Farms LLC’s Cerveza (pictured), a gelded son of Attila’s Storm trained by Todd Fincher, is the 5-2 morning-line favorite for Saturday’s 1-mile, $100,000 Casino at The Downs Thoroughbred Derby (R) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds at Albuquerque Downs.

Cerveza will be stretching out in distance off of his 2 1/2-length win in the 5 1/2-furlong, $50,000 Road Runner Handicap (R) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds at Ruidoso Downs on July 26. The gelding drew post 4 and will be ridden by Luis A. Fuentes as he makes his first-ever start at Albuquerque Downs.

Other contenders include Ancient Land, a Monterey Jazz gelding trained by Casey Lambert for owners Martin Riley, D. Carroll, C. Scott, and J. Howard. Ancient Land will be facing 3-year-olds again off of his fourth-place finish, 5 3/4 lengths behind winner Next Affair, in the July 26, 7 1/2-furlong Land Of Enchantment Handicap (R) at Ruidoso Downs.

Ancient Land ended his 2-year-old season with a 1 1/4-length victory in the December 9, $145,000 Steve Prather Stakes (R) at Zia Park, and he began his sophomore campaign with a half-length win in the 6-furlong, $100,000 Four Rivers John Deere Stakes (R) at Sunland Park on January 5.
