Crispyn (pictured), a homebred son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion A Royal Jess owned by MRB Racing LLC, is the fastest qualifier to the April 1, $363,978 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) for state-bred 2-year-old Quarter Horses at Sunland Park.

Racing in the first of nine 300-yard trials on March 10 and aided by a reported 10-mph tail wind, Crispyn defeated non-qualifier Bigg Shades Of Gray by two lengths in :15.289. Alan Hernandez rode the bay gelding for trainer Manuel Rodriguez.

Crispyn is out of First Place Cartel, an unplaced 12-year-old daughter of the Holland Ease stallion Corona Cartel. His second dam, the First Place Dash mare First Regards, won the 2002 Dash For Cash Derby (G1) at Lone Star Park near Dallas.

Second-fastest qualifier Miss Hi Tide won the sixth heat by one length from seventh-fastest qualifier Over Da Edge. Ridden by Adrian Ramos for owner Uno Menos and trainer Wes Giles, the sorrel daughter of the Dash Ta Fame stallion Woodbridge stopped the timer in :15.311.

Miss Hi Tide was bred by Mac and Janis Murray’s MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico, and she was an $80,000 purchase by Uno Menos at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. A full sister to multiple graded stakes winner and 2019 All American Futurity (G1) runner-up Mister Riptide and a half to stakes winner Nineteen Crimes, Miss Hi Tide is out of Ms Riptide, a stakes-winning and multiple graded stakes placed daughter of Ocean Runaway.

Chicka Boom Babe, the third-fastest qualifier, won the ninth trial by a neck from fourth-fastest qualifier Jess Have One More. Prepped by Wes Giles for owners Robert M. Driggers and Ben Lee Ivey and ridden by Sergio Dominguez, the gray Chicks Regard filly covered 300 yards in :15.344.

Chicka Boom Babe was bred by Ivey Cattle Co., and she is out of Riverside Babe, a winning homebred First Moonflash mare. Her second dam, Riverside Eye Opener, was a winning daughter of the Dash For Cash stallion Mr Eye Opener who ran second in the ’04 La Mariposa Handicap (G3) at Albuquerque Downs.

The winner of the New Mexican Spring Futurity final will earn $171,069. The complete list of New Mexican Spring Futurity finalists appears below:
